This full-time, exempt Construction Estimator is responsible for the preparation and completion of estimates for assigned project(s) for one or more disciplines (e.g., structural concrete, earthwork, drainage, pipework, hot mix asphalt, utilities, etc.). May perform job duties directly or through subordinate personnel.
Occasional day travel required to attend pre-bid meetings, visit job sites and/or attend conferences or training classes.
This role is on-site and requires working from the regional office.
Technical: Means/Methods
Reviews and incorporates historical data from purchase orders, bid tabulations, subcontracts, productivity analysis reports and the job costs system into unit cost, man-hour and crew production figures.
Reviews proposal specifications and drawings, labor and material requirements, prepares lists of bid items and quantities and attends pre-bid meetings to determine scope of work and contents of estimate.
Computes cost factors and prepares estimates used for management purposes such as planning, organizing and scheduling work.
Reviews, analyzes and recommends vendors and subcontractors for the project; discusses and obtains appropriate quotations in coordination with the Purchasing Department.
Interfaces with owner, architect/engineer and subcontractors to provide engineering and cost data regarding project feasibility.
Prepares estimates by calculating complete takeoff of scope of work, accurately quantifies and prices the labor, materials and equipment needed to perform the work and determines cost effectiveness.
Maintains documents as back-up for estimate figures, including current/accurate information on prices from suppliers through direct contact, sales brochures, price lists, etc., in conjunction with the Purchasing Department.
Supports other department personnel as required; may include preparing estimates in other disciplines.
May review design options and recommend best solution based on cost, value engineering or availability of materials.
Follows awarded contracts as assigned; working with the Project Team after project is awarded, duties may include estimating extra work items, change orders, credits, procuring materials, etc.
Performs other duties as assigned including policing jobsites to maintain a clean, orderly, and safe workplace.
Technical: Delay Free Production/Quality
Prepares detailed itemized takeoff and estimates record following delay free production/industry standard.
Analyzes and incorporates delay free production into preparing the workplan of estimates / bids.
Safety
Incorporates the Allan Myers Safety Program and associated costs into estimates. Identifies high-risk activities and coordinates with Safety Department to determine if additional costs are required. Transfers all safety information related to estimate to the Project Team.

Acts in a lead capacity and provides work direction to Estimator I and/or other team members as required.
