  • Responsibilities

    The Transportation Supervisor reports to the General Manager of Transportation and supervises an assigned group of drivers. They will coordinate with dispatch to ensure drivers and equipment are utilized profitably to maximize operational efficiency and effectiveness and promote customer satisfaction.

     

    •  Manage the drivers and the equipment to maximize utilization.
    •  Address personnel issues, including performance, employee development, employee concerns etc.
    •  Review transportation reports to achieve efficiency and profitability.
    •  Review of trip times and haul rates for better profitability.
    •  Ensure compliance with all company policies, DOT requirements, MSHA/OSHA regulations, etc.
    •  Coordinate vehicle maintenance with the “On Road” shop.
    •  Assist in interviewing, hiring, and training of new applicants, coordinating road tests as well as establish and maintain a professional work environment for employees.
    •  Coordinate with dispatch the scheduling of driver’s, vacations and personal time off.
    •  Spend time in the field monitoring hauls and job sites, driver performance to standard, etc.

     

    Qualifications

    Supervisory experience, 2-3 years, is required as well as familiarity with dispatch communication and paperwork. Knowledge of DOT regulations, weight limits, Haz Mat regulations. Excellent administrative and PC skills a must. Ability to work flexible hours and a bachelor’s degree is preferred.

    • IT literacy and the ability to handle electronic data;
    • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well as part of a team;

    • The ability to work with people at different levels of the organization.

    Physical Demands:

    • Usually, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the job duties. However, the employee should expect to walk, bend, stand and carry light items such as papers and books.
    • The employee must be able to hear and speak effectively in person and over the telephone.
    • The employee may be required to drive a vehicle on a regular basis and travel to customer, supplier and company owned sites.

    Work Environment:

    During their time spent in the field the Transportation Supervisor may be subjected to all kinds of weather conditions (icy or otherwise slippery footing must be taken into consideration in the winter months), dusty atmospheres (requires a respirator at some locations) and noisy plant workings (may require the use of ear plugs or muffs).
